Caring for Your Hand Block Printed Pieces
As part of our commitment to sustainability and slow craftsmanship, we want your Raahi Living pieces to be worn, used, and loved for years to come. Hand block-printed fabrics are created using traditional techniques and natural processes, and with the right care, their beauty only deepens over time.
To help you care for your hand block-printed clothing and homeware, we’ve put together the following guidelines:
Gentle Washing
Hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle with a low spin, using cold water only (maximum 30°C). Warm or hot water can damage the dyes and cause colours to fade or bleed, so always opt for cold washes to protect the print.
Embroidered Pieces
Items featuring embroidery, including our embroidered napkins, should be hand washed only in cold water. This helps protect the stitching, maintain shape, and preserve the delicate detailing.
Use a Mild Detergent
Choose a non-enzyme / non-biological detergent to safeguard both the colours and the natural cotton fibres used in hand block printing and embroidery.
Avoid the Dryer
Do not tumble dry. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and air dry flat to maintain the structure of the fabric.
Protect the Colours
While the fabric is still damp, gently pull it back into shape. Dry items inside-out and away from direct sunlight or strong light, which can cause colours to fade over time.
Wash Colours Separately
Strong or deep colours should be washed separately, especially during the first few washes. Although all Raahi Living pieces are pre-washed, hand block printed fabrics may naturally release excess dye initially.
Iron with Care
Iron on the reverse side of the print. For embroidered pieces, avoid direct heat on the embroidery and use a pressing cloth if needed.
